Job Description:
The Cornell Center for Social Sciences [ (CCSS) provides critical research support to Cornell social scientists. The CCSS seeks an assistant whose primary responsibility is to assist with administrative management and finance tasks for our growing initiatives and programs. This position is open to undergraduate or graduate students in good standing. You may also assist with the following: scheduling, correspondence, facility management, event management, and special projects. This position is supervised by the CCSS Administrative Manager and primarily supports 4 staff members: Administrative Manager, Associate Director of Research Support Services, Executive Assistant, and Administrative Coordinator. This position also provides support to other CCSS staff as needed. This position is in-person in Rhodes Hall. After April 2023, some time will be spent in our new Clark Hall location.
Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
Key responsibilities:
1. Communication: Collaborate and communicate effectively with the Administrative Manager, Administrative Coordinator, Executive Assistant, Assoc. Director of Research Support Services, and other staff and student workers to move tasks and projects forward. Effectively create and set up and maintain MS Office docs and Google docs, manage files in MS Teams, and Trello task cards to work with other staff on tasks and projects.
2. Finance and metrics: Ordering office/kitchen supplies and equipment via E-shop for 2 building locations and monitoring inventory; prepare finance transaction submissions (IWant docs/other financial templates to submit invoices for processing, such as Helpdesk software purchasing and renewals, data purchases, and membership payments); track monthly Cloud account usage; and send queries for more information; assist with updating machine inventory and insurance records. Provide assistance to the Lead Statistical Consultant: Run regular service statistics reports for Create comparative reports and set up new reports, as requested. Track and monitor software purchasing by maintaining spreadsheets.
3. Facility management -- Maintain, clean, and restock Rhodes Common Room and Clark Hall kitchenette; pick up and distribute mail; organize office and technology supplies; assistance with staff/office/equipment moves as needed. Update facility information docs.
4. Event management: Events include workshops, meetings, and the Annual Lecture. Tasks include assisting with set-up/take-down, catering logistics, and pre-event and on-site support. May provide basic AV and technology support.
5. Errands: Purchase items at the Cornell store, pick up masks at the recycling center, distribute and put up posters, and other errands as assigned.
6. Human Resources: Update staff contact lists and org chart. Help with scheduling student worker interviews, manage applications, and provide back-up support for executing student appointments. Creating, disseminating, and evaluating Doodle polls for scheduling; related scheduling tasks. Other tasks as assigned.
7. Assist with general administrative management and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Required Skills:
-Prior experience with finance/accounting tasks, spreadsheets, and using templates is required.
-Skilled in Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new apps.
-Prior experience with Cornell systems (Eshop, IWant docs etc.) is a plus.
-Basic AV and tech support experience is a plus.
-Friendly, inclusive, and professional communication skills, both in person and in writing.
-Ability to be an ambassador for the CCSS to the social science community.
-Commitment to dependability, accountability, and confidentiality.
-Organized, detail-oriented, and ability to create and manage timelines.
-Ability to take direction, ask questions as needed, and show sound independent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
-Light lifting as needed.
Work Schedule:
6-10 hours per week between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., by mutual agreement. The start date is the first week of classes, but if you are available sooner, either remote or in person, please note in your application what earlier date you could start.
