Job Description:
The Cornell Center for Social Sciences [http://socialsciences.cornell.edu/ (CCSS) provides critical research support to Cornell social scientists. The CCSS seeks an assistant whose primary responsibility is to assist with administrative management and finance tasks for our growing initiatives and programs.

This position is open to undergraduate or graduate students in good standing. You may also assist with the following: scheduling, correspondence, facility management, event management, and special projects. This position primarily assists 3 CCSS staff members: the Administrative Manager, Executive Assistant, and Associate Director of Research Support Services. This position is hybrid with both remote and in-person (Rhodes Hall) work. Prior experience with professional correspondence, using templates, and spreadsheets required.

Key responsibilities:
1. Communication: Collaborate and communicate effectively with the Administrative Manager, Executive Assistant, Assoc. Director of Research Support Services, and other staff and student workers to move tasks and projects forward; effectively create and set up Google Docs and Trello task cards to work with other staff on tasks and projects.
2. Scheduling: Creating, disseminating, and evaluating Doodle polls for scheduling; related scheduling tasks.
3. Finance: Ordering office/kitchen supplies and equipment via E-shop; prepare finance transaction submissions (grant funding spreadsheets for grant transfers & IWant docs/other financial templates to submit invoices for processing, such as data purchases and membership payments); track and monitor purchasing by maintaining spreadsheets; prepare monthly invoices for Cloud account usage; send queries for more information; monitor inventory; assist with updating insurance records.
4. Correspondence: Draft and send emails to CCSS staff and Cornell colleagues as directed, including to listservs; prepare and customize content for Grant Development Writing Program award letters from templates; provide copy and proofreading support; other text preparation tasks as needed.
5. Facility management -- In-person tasks: Maintain, clean, and restock Common Room; pick up and distribute mail in Rhodes Hall; basic printer and technology support; organize office and technology supplies; assistance with staff/office moves as needed. Remote tasks: submit facility repair requests to building managers; submit telephone change requests; disseminate facility updates; update facility information docs; coordinate pick-up and receiving of packages and submit Red Runner delivery requests.
6. Event management (mainly in-person): Assist with weekly Fellows meeting and monthly meeting set-up/take-down; catering ordering; and Annual Lecture support. Other events as needed.
7. Assist with general administrative management and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

-Organized, detail-oriented, and ability to create and manage timelines
-Ability to take direction, ask questions as needed, and show sound independent decision-making and problem-solving skills
-Skilled in Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new apps
-Prior experience with finance/accounting tasks preferred
-Prior experience with Cornell systems (Eshop, IWant docs etc.) is a plus
-Light lifting as needed

Work Schedule:
8-15 hours per week between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., by mutual agreement. Proportion of in-person and remote work to be determined by mutual agreement. We will work around your class schedule.
