Job Description:
The Cornell Center for Social Sciences seeks an undergraduate student to work approximately 6-8 hours a week. This position is for Summer 2021, with preference given to applicants who can continue in the position for the 2021-2022 academic year. The position’s primary responsibility is maintaining, updating, and designing pages for the department website (http://socialsciences.cornell.edu/ ). Other tasks include social media, word processing, data entry, and facility/event assistance when we are onsite. Currently this job is remote, but will be in-person when the unit returns to campus sometime during the next academic year, probably in August. Training is provided for all tasks.

WEB MAINTENANCE
Update spotlight, events, posts, videos, and pages per house style
Update online courses, publications, press coverage, and affiliate lists for projects, small grant cohorts, and faculty fellow cohorts
Design posts or pages as needed, usually using templates
Proofread and correct existing content for readability and consistency
Locate public-domain photos; crop and upload photos, tag photos with identifying info
Check and fix broken links
Troubleshoot issues with as necessary
Suggest and/or implement site improvements
Other projects as assigned

COMMUNICATION
Draft Tweets and Facebook posts related to the social sciences at Cornell
Search for social science related retweets
Scan through Cornell Chronicle and Cornell Research weekly for new content
Help promote events on Twitter, Facebook and on local and Cornell websites

WORD PROCESSING AND DATA ENTRY
Design and print mailings, labels, and name tags as needed
Update or create lists (contacts, inventory, etc.)
Locate faculty CVs online and download to project folders. These are used to update publications, subsequent funding, and press coverage documentation.
Update grant data (each semester)
Update CCSS award documentation
Update subsequent research funding documentation
Suggest and/or implement improvements
Other projects as assigned

FACILITY AND EVENT ASSISTANCE (if in-person, during the academic year)
Assistance to resident faculty as needed (minimal)
Clean lounge (daily)
Put 40 pd water bottles on water dispenser as needed (bi-weekly)
Unpack and set up tech or other equipment as needed
Campus errands and other tasks as needed
Dust offices for annual faculty move-in
Assist with events as needed, and as available
Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
Prior experience with web maintenance and design is a plus. Experience with social media, in particular Twitter and Facebook. Proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Responsible, organized individual with the ability to work independently, pay strong attention to detail, maintain confidentiality, take initiative and follow through, and be part of a team. Preference will be given to those who can continue in the position during the 2021-22 academic year, and those with prior office work experience, web maintenance experience (work, volunteer, or personal), or completion of Essential Desktop Applications or equivalent class.
Work Schedule:
6-8 hours per week, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters. Number of hours of work per week, term start date, and term end date to be determined by mutual agreement.
